That sounds right on the money for a translation agency. If you solict bids
directly from free-lance translators, you should get significantly lower per
word rates.
(By the way, most agencies will also add on additional charges for
preparation, post-translation Q&A, and administration. This can add 10-20%
to their final bid.)
In my experience, agencies will submit new, lower, bids if you tell them
they've been outbid by a competitor. You can play them off against each
other.
