Ask for a cube. Explain that the setup they've given you is too
distracting. You need to be able to concentrate to do good work. You
need to be comfortable in order to concentrate. You're not asking for a
corner office with leather chairs and mahogany furniture, you're asking
for a basic cube. There has to be one available, right? Somewhere? Else
is there a room you can be moved to that will suffice?

I'm guessing there will be some who will say "Be lucky you have a job"
but in all honesty, what good is a job (other than income, which can be
generated in many, many ways, tech writing or not) if you don't have
what you need to do it well?
