Subject:Why is Technical Communication a profession? From:JK Tan <eagle_winz -at- yahoo -dot- com -dot- sg> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Mon, 15 Jul 2002 09:20:49 +0800 (CST)
Hi, everyone.
Really hope to get as many answers to this question as
possible. At the Singapore chapter, we are planning to
run an awareness program in early Sept.
We are very keen to highlight the fact Technical
Communication is a profession. Employers cannot simply
putting someone - who's good in English and has some
understanding of the technical jargon - in the job.
Among the many questions that we plan to raise are:
1) What are the consequences of a poorly written
end-user document (whether printed or online)? E.g.,
they can range from corporate image, customer
satisfaction / dissatisfaction and lost productivity
to production costs, technical support costs, and even
a matter of life and death (for the user). Anecdotes
are most welcome.
2) What are the specialized skills that are needed in
Technical Communication?
I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.
~j
