I'm trying to convert a big template from Word95 to Word2000 (or Word97).
The error message I receive is the following:
"Word cannot open the document.
Try one or more of the following:
* On the File menu, click Open to open the document.
* Make sure the document has a .DOC extension.
(C:\TEMP\AV_DOC.DOT)"
Those suggestions don't help: I used File/Open, and I need to convert a
template, not a document. I searched various archives, but I couldn't find
a solution. Some of the things I tried so far:
- renaming the extension, to fool the program
- removing 'read only' from the file
- disabling macro protection
- checking startup and user template locations (MS info)
- checking bufffers line in config.sys (MS info)
- attaching the template to a document directly ("word cannot open the
document template")
- using the Organizer to copy macros
- removing the Auto-macros in Word95
Any suggestion is welcome, it is a big template containing styles,
autotext, macros, toolbars etc. Strange thing is that I can open the
template when I select 'Disable macros' with macro protection active, but
then of course all my macros are gone.
Please reply to me directly, I will summarise to the list.
