TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Earlier this year, about April, I think, we had quite a discussion on this
topic. I had asked for people's responses, and the votes came back about 9-1
in favor of the Dragon product. You can see the summary and discussion in
the archives.
As a follow-up, we now have two people actively using the software , one
writer (who, in addition to carpal tunnel problems, also has a broken arm)
and one engineer (with RSI). Both are satisfied with the product. Our VAR
supplies periodic, 1-on-1 training, and that has been a help.
Comments from people with similar voices CAN appear on screen if they're
loud and close enough, but that's not really an issue most of the time.
I'd say, go for it if you have a reason to use it. Go through a VAR; it's
worth it.
And for goodness sakes, read the archives!
