RE: Why do we put so many warnings in our manuals?

Okay, can't resist...the "Ever done a dumb stunt?" reminded me of this...
I wanted to add another room to me house. Walked about the yard and just
didn't see room without getting the neighbors riled. Looked at the roof.
Walla! What if I was to take the back half off my peak roof, line the
opening with 4x2s and plywood, lay in a floor, cap it with a flat roof - man
I'm good! Actually, it worked. Looked weird, (sorta like an old castle's
turret) but the city allowed it, so why not. Comes a thunderstorm the day
before I was to apply the exterior waterproofing and siding.
My entire attic space is now open to the thunderstorm. Do you have any idea
how much water old blown-in insulation will hold? Lots more than your
ceiling will support...so all the ceilings fell in, drenching everything in
water and really nasty insulation stuff.
My insurance company paid over sixty thousand dollars to restore my house
and possessions...including putting me and the family in a nice long-term
hotel while they rebuilt my place - and DID NOT CANCEL!
