Re: Glad to have Andrew back / Wonder what he thinks of ISO-9000 cert ification
$I guess the old adage "buyer beware" applies. What is the quality they have
$in place, and why. Is it just for the sticker, or is it a conscious company
$effort to create better quality and consistency.
That's a good point.
If ISO 9000 registration goes hand in hand with a sincere desire on the part of the company to provide a quality product, and to ensure the proper controls are in place to ensure the qality target is met, then ISO 9000 registration is an admirable thing.
If the purpose of ISO 9000 registration is solely to provide the company with an extra wrench in the marketing tool kit, then perhaps ISO 9000 registration needs to viewed with an extra large grain of salt.
Unfortunately, until we have some way of determining what the real reason is, we are still taking the certification on faith. Until we actually get either some direct experience with the company's products and services, or good references from other customers the company has, we have no way of guaging the quality of the product or service.
So you are absolutely right. Buyer beware. At least, if the product or service is crappy, we know it is consistently crappy.
