Near as I can tell from this leading candidate for longest thread in the
universe it comes down to three basics with lots of variations:
1) Acquire information: You must be a SME, or a SMN (subject matter novice)
at more than one level: the industry/field of endeavor, the
technology/production, the product itself, the audience for the product, and
effective communication. These overlap and evolve in varying degrees
depending on you and your employer.
2) Refine information: ask stupid user questions and ask show-stopping
product development questions; look for industry trends; look for patterns
and anomalies in development and testing; be aware of regulation and safety
issues; find ways to make information integral to product delivery to the
intended audience.
OK anybody have any other burning universal questions that I, or my evil
twin can answer today?
Regards to SME's and SMN's everywhere
