TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
One thing I failed to make clear is that my responsibility, my mission, if
you will, is to get this team, six engineers, three analysts, two team leads
and one manager happy and up to speed; able to produce and maintain a total
of perhaps twenty documents. None of the docs are complex, most of the data
that goes into the docs is available from various online sources to be
pulled into my scheme.
That's it. Now, if I can't show twelve people how to build, distribute and
control twenty documents in six months I have no business calling myself a
technical writer.
I mentioned that this prototype might become of interest to the enterprise
because I believe it will - I believe that we can show UPS a team that
produces their own documentation without having to hire tech writers or
outside resources (OH BLASPHEMY!!!!! DID HE JUST SAY THAT??!! And without
undue distraction from the individual's "real" job.
Keep it comin'
