Re: Having a killer resume
Personally, I find writing a resume and/or cover letter for myself to be excruciatingly difficult. Sticking to "the facts" make it dull as dishwater. Adding "sales pizazz" makes it sound like a lying yankee dog.
I mentioned this in another post this morning, but I think the point worth repeating for emphasis: "sales pizazz" is the mark of an amateur marketer, especially in high-tech, where many customers want the technical details.
In this milieu, effective marketing is a matter of emphasizing the truth without every over-promising, or scaring readers off with buzz words that make you sound like just another con artist.
As in a novel, the trick is to show rather than tell. For your own purposes, identifying that you want to create a sense of excellence in a product (whether the product is software or you) may be useful preliminary work. However, if you once actually use the word "excellence" in your final copy, then the alarm goes off, the two thousand pound weight falls on your head, you lose the free year's supply of suppositories, and you aren't invited to appear on the show again next week.
