Your comments emphasize the limits of any sort of outline. Quite possibly, the resume writers you encountered are suggesting a very sensible outline. However, they've clearly become too rigid about it.

To give what are probably self-evident truisms:

- The fact that one structure works doesn't mean that another one doesn't.

- Structure is essential,and often neglected, but you also need content. I suggest that the reason that most objective statements are ineffective isn't that the idea is bad - it's that most of them lack useful content. I don't know how many times I've seen people assume that, if they follow the structure for a document, and put something - anything - in the space where some content is needed, then they've done all they need. Not surprisingly,it's not that simple.
