I'm at a pharma company now, in the IT department and
I do the same thing: internal, IT docs, everything in
the SDLC, and the user guides for the projects those
docs produce. No marketing or medical copy. My boss is
my proofreader, and although English is not her first
language--and her first is Farsi--she's very good.
The only time I ever worked with an actual designated
editor was at Symantec, as a contractor, where I was
one of the only writers to last more than 2 weeks.
Heck it's probably the only time I had to work to a
pre-existing style guide. It was very weird.
