the only reason i am sort of appalled by george w.'s "nucular" is that, as a
leader of the free world, i think he has an obligation to sound intelligent.
and that includes not mispronouncing words. don't care where he's from or
what accent he has. would tony blair do it?
I don't know if Tony Blair would do it,but Winston Churchill did, at least according to George Orwell. During World II, he deliberately mispronounced "Nazi" in his radio broadcasts because the majority of his listeners were mispronouncing it, too. Later, when the majority of the public changed their pronounciation, he did, too.
As everyone knows, Churchill wasn't exactly known for his mis-use of language. The fact that someone like Churchill would mis-pronounce a word for the sake of better communication is an interesting example for us.
