As you pointed out, yes Macs can be integrated into NT networks. Is it cheap and easy? Heck yeah! All an Admin needs to do os to remember to click a checkbox to enable AppleTalk ("Enable Mac Services" IIRC). With OS X you don't even need that. OS X works seamlessly with NT/2000 networks. I can browse the network and connect to any share that I have priv's for. I get screenshots on my PC & have Snag-It automatically save the TIFFs to a folder on my Mac.

Traditionally, I have found the resistance is generally from Admins who do not want to be presented with dealing something they don't know and do not wish to learn or care about. They do not want to have someone else affect how they set up their "baby". Once presented with how easyit is (little work they need to do and how little it will affect their network) they are generally happy to comply.
