Subject:is anyone in a comparable scenario? From:John Posada <JPosada -at- book -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Mon, 21 Oct 2002 14:26:20 -0400
Just curious to see if anyone handles this gracefully, or is this situation
labor intensive by design.
I have a FM book, called a Run book. This book is used by the Network
Operations Center (NOC) to maintain an enterprise-type of
application...specifically, an Enterprise Integration Application (EIA).
I have about 20 chapters in the book. The delivery is PDF and HC. No
problem. The book has a TOC, but no index...please no discussion on how it
should have one, the user said they don't care for one whether it was there
or not, they would find stuff using electronic searching.
Anyway...the problem is that sections are continually changing and new
sections are being added all the time...maybe at the rate of a section every
other day.
Since this book is about 500 pages, to create and deliver a new book every
other day is an ordeal.
Therefore, the question..if anyone is in a similar situation, how do you
deliver your documentation and make sure that each new section is used and
that the obsolete sections are not used.
What I'm considering is web delivery, but that has some issues I may not be
able to address.
So, is anyone in a similar situation with a brilliant solution?
