Not the expert whose book I just edited. Work experience, she says, should
start on the first page.

Really? She suggests that the work history should start on the first page? Does she give the reasoning?

The reasoning I'm citing goes something like this: use the objective rather like a newspaper headline to draw interest. List your skills and accomplishment to validate your skills. The reasoning is that these are what the employer is interested in; the job history should simply provide confirmation.

However, I haven't been following this format long enough to have any opinion of the results, so I'm curious about other suggestions.

I don't get it, Bruce. Did you leave a "not" out of the paragraph or
something?

Yes, I did. Sometimes, living caffeine-free exacts its price - especially on Mondays.

- Two other major positions were judged not to be software-oriented
(never mind that the job description I provided clearly showed otherwise).

Did you apply for a developer's job or a writer's job?

A writer's job.

Of course, I might add that preparing a hardware manual often isn't much different from preparing a software manual.
