Big bucks in tech-writing: summary of questions

Last week, I asked list-members whether they were content to be tech-writers, or if they had any other career goals.

The respsonses fell into five recognizable categories:

- Content to stay as a tech-writer:14
- Tried other positions, but prefer being a tech-writer:3
- Vaguely interested in another position, but mostly content to be a tech-writer:5
- Would move into another position, so long as it didn't involve giving up writing:3
- Plan to move into another position:5

All but the last category indicate that those who answered are largely content with being tech-writers. Only 17% seemed actively interested in another career - an amazingly low rate.

Apparently, my original contention holds: tech-writers are largely content to remain tech-writers.

"Monday morning, 6 AM, the clock rings off the wall,
I'm standing to attention in my bare feet in the hall,
I've got one leg down my trousers, can't find no socks at all,
But I'm a coiled spring of industry responding to your call."
