Responding to the latest debate regarding content, Eric Dunn pondered "...if
content is the be all and end all of techwriting what can be discussed about
'content' that is of use cross-industry? Anybody?..."
Well if we're done beating up STC over the judging criteria used for
contents, we can begin beating up STC over the criteria used to select
journal entries.
Seriously, though, I can imagine a scenario where one mocks up a user
interface in a program like Visual Basic, puts together a spec, and then
invites a group of tech writers to debate how best to approach the
documentation. One could conduct a similar exercise for non-software
products, possibly using common household objects.
I would consider a discussion about how best to document a fictitious or
real product much more interesting than yet another article about usability
testing methodologies.
