I read and reviewed the book. There ARE some good points in it, despite the
overall tone. One of the big things to learn is that as an independent, you
WILL spend a large part (he estimates about 40%)of your time
marketing/selling your services. If you don't want to do the selling, get an
agent and pay the fee.
Of course, on the website, he spends about 99.97% of the time marketing his
product.
I have to agree with Andrew (who, after all, is in the business himself) on
this one! If you really want to do TECHNICAL writing as an independent, this
isn't the best book for you. OTOH, even technical writers need to be able to
market themselves. I'd recommend borrowing this from your local library and
giving it a fast skim.
