Subject:Re: What good is it if you can't find it? From:Jean Hollis Weber <jean -at- jeanweber -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Sun, 17 Nov 2002 07:37:04 +1000
For me, one of the most interesting aspects of this discussion (which I
have not read in its entirety yet) is this: I think of the index and other
retrieval mechanisms as part of the CONTENT, not the design. Therefore if
you can't find information that's actually there, it's a content problem,
not a design problem.
I tend to think of design as mostly to do with appearance and presentation,
although I know that "information design" covers such decisions as what
retrieval aids to include, and other things I think of as content issues.
Perhaps what others call "information design" I call "planning".
I wonder if some of the arguments we have arise from different definitions
of what it is we're talking about, or different terms for the same things.
