Over on the right-hand side of the pond, what
are you folks calling 1G when you say it out
loud?
One billion?
"Billion" is ambiguous - being a thousand million in AE and a million million in much of continental Europe - but "giga" is not. It is always the ten to the ninth power multiple of something, or a thousand million. (Disregarding the slightly different definition is sometimes has for computer memory.)
