Wonderful. The Union debate has resurfaced.
Every Techwriter is perfectly free and capable of learning any new technology or
practice and marketing themselves in a new area. Where are the bonds that tie
you to an industry or company?
I for one don't want collective barganing because that means I'll be stuck
supporting the less than average writer and be forced to resign myself to slow
controlled progression through the ranks. Why bother stimulating your brain and
making yourself marketable if the Union will protect you? And how big is this
bloody collective going to be? I for one will not go on strike to support the
high and rediculous cost of living on the Left Coast.
You're only one of the Herd if you decide to be one. If you're desperate for a
Union you're just a sheep looking for a different herd/shephard.
As far as <<go-it-alone, self-made man meritocracy nonsense>> is concerned.
That's a fact of life. Everything beyond the basic necessities of life SHOULD be
a competition of the best qualified and best at marketing themselves. No one
deserves the latest car and big home. And nobody should be forced into line for
them because some arbitrary structure has determined that someone else should
get the recognition first.
