Pleasing the "user" is not always the primary goal documentation. A good doc
set can also be a good sales tool. It proves that the organization has a handle
on their own technology.
Definitely - and not just when dealing with other businesses, either. One of my proudest moments as a tech-writer came when a company's survey of purchasers for a retail product revealed that the manual I wrote was the reason for two-thirds of the sales.
