English is English and there is only so many different ways of writing
something. As much as possible I deliberately try to keep within a standard
set of phrases regardless of the manual/indunstry/client. We are used to
seeing certain things described in certain ways and you WANT to tap into
that. If "click" is commonly used for activating a button, don't use
"select". Certain words, phrases, and sentences are burned into our cultural
lexicon. Don't run from it, embrace it. It'll make your job easier.
