TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Ms. Dunton has done a credible job of the present site. However, it is
rather dated and by current standards of viewers' expectations (IMHO),
appears a bit amateurish. Six or ten years ago, "fly-in" or "window
blind" titles, internal pages of different colours, and mixed snip art
buttons etc. were common. But even then not professional. And
certainly not indicative of the import and majesty of the church - if
the photo on the proposed site is the real thing.
I prefer (could you tell?) site #2, with some reservations (see later).
It is easier to read. The graphical emphasis is where it should be: on
the church. The style of headings and subheads is very attractive. I
like the CSS link decoration to clarify the full (wrapped) link title.
Current activities are right there on the front page. The Pastor's photo
accompanying his change of voice to first singular is excellent
placement! The whole page looks entirely professional and the Parish
can rightly be proud of this very competent design.
Reservations - these are all just tweaks: indents and cell padding need
attention to avoid unnecessary wrap; it's a very long scroll - 5x PgDn
is too long IMO; the code needs some work to be valid to the doctype;
the pastor's sigline is in too small a font for older eyes; table size
needs attention - NS4.x doesn't like it. As I said, just tweaks. Good
job!
