Re: I should be doing THIS kind of tech writing

What stinks even more is the actual author makes little to no money on the
book. Publishing is the way to go. It is like the music industry, in most
cases the artist makes little money and the record companies get it all.
Sheesh, no money for the working man, money for the man working for you.
I just copied Geoff "The Hitman" Hart's current sig line, and it applies here:
"Work is of two kinds: first, altering the position of matter at or near the earth's surface relative to other matter; second, telling other people to do so. The first is unpleasant and ill-paid; the second is pleasant and highly paid." --Bertrand Russell
ObTechWriting: I suppose the publish-or-perish rule applies here. If you don't publish, tenure can slip through your fingers. I'm currently trying to add value (and make people notice what I do) by adding more usable content to the release notes and padding the distribution list. If you think that's not much, consider that in 2002 we had 13 scheduled releases... and 47 unplanned releases. I documented only the last unplanned release, since the PsTB/PHBs now want all releases documented.
