I agree. There is nothing "cool" about what John experienced.
There is no reason to be rude, even if the IT group deserved it. The IT group
has now probably labeled her a b**ch and won't give her the time of day when
she needs it.
You don't impress people by being rude and righteous. You impress them with a
solid understanding of the issues and the ability to rise above petty
personality differences.
Two wrongs don't make a right.
