Sandra...you're new to the list, huh? Well, did YOU see us at our best and
our worst. If you weren't chased away after this discussion, you'll do
alright! :-)
EVERYONE here has something worthwhile to contribute and you'll learn the
most from those with the strongest opinions because they'll stick to their
guns with ideas and concepts that wouldn't occur to you in a million years.
it's from those people, that I learn the most.
Regarding this situation, I think there are several factors which made it
play out the way it did.
1) This is NYC and we're not known as the diplomacy capitol of the world.
2) The NOC that was so tough on the developer handles SO much, that
sometimes they expect everyone around them to "take it like a man".
Understand, you have 4 people at a console handling the entire network
workload (maybe 200-300 servers) for the 4th largest e-commerce web site in
he world, which, according to Gomez, is the 3rd fastest Gomez Transactional
Benchmark (http://www.scorecard.com/info.asp?id=B)on site in our field on
the internet, so things are hopping around here.
3) The NOC had just come through the x-mas rush without incident, so they
were pretty high-stung and might have been letting off a little steam.
Anyway, not to make excuses for them, but different situations are handled
differently based on numerous factors and what may be appropriate somewhere
is not appropriate somewhere else.
So. welcome aboard, sometimes there is more heat than light, other times
we're in the dark.

Hi John
Im a new subscriber to the email discussion
I just wanted to say thank you for being respectful and supportive to
someone who was basically competent but got picked on by others. Bullying
is bullying no matter the situation.
As far as I can see, her response was very human, and she did not verbally
assault the men either, as one person here pointed out. Instead, she was
assertive in expressing her feelings and basically told the men to leave
her alone and let her do her job. Who can blame her for losing her
professionalism momentarily after being exposed to so much
unprofessionalism!!!! The men, being more seasoned and experienced, were
supposed to model for her, a much younger person, how to behave
professionally, how to team-solve problems, etc., but did the exact
opposite!
