Part of the problem with making a mistake on a resume, is that the reader
may truly believe this reflects on the author's ability to focus, and be
meticulous. It also will bring out questions of the author's personal desire
for accuracy, and detail. This would be doubly-so for some one applying to
become a writer within a company. Also, we tend 'not' to believe a writer,
if that person makes mistakes in their writings. And we always look for
flaws in others, then make judgments, regardless of how trivial the mistake
was. Especially if we don't like someone, or tend to be an anal type of
individual.
My prejudices are such, that if I was looking at a candidate's resume, and
saw an error on it: I'd wonder - if that person has failed to notice such an
important error, on such a critical document (as their resume) - what's
going to happen to the un-important documents in my workplace. In other
words, how someone writes a letter, is often a good indication of how they
run their affairs. And a lot of H.R. types, follow this line of thinking ...
and maybe wisely so!
