If I may put in my two cents here, I have an Epson Stylus Color 600 at
home, and I've had relatively good luck with the generic cartridges,
although my red nozzle seems to keep getting clogged, requiring me to do
a cleaning. (I had been assuming it was a problem with my printer, but
maybe not.) I get them from either Staples or a reputable computer
supplier. I'm not sure there are refills available for those
cartridges, but if there are, I'd be interested in finding out.
However, I used to do the refill thing with my old Apple StyleWriter,
and found that you can't refill the cartridge indefinitely. Eventually,
it just refuses to work, and I wasted several bottles of ink learning
that. (Not to mention that refilling a cartridge is a messy business.)
Now what I'd like to know is -- why can't they make no-smear ink??? Is
there something about the mature of the inkjet process that requires the
ink to be water-soluble?
