RE: Color cartridges (was RE: high cost of print cartridges)

The "PS" is for "Photo Stylus" -- meaning it's targetted to high-quality
photo printing. The inks are CMYK plus light cyan and light magenta, which
are supposed to produce better skin tones. Two cartridges are produced --
black-only and 5-colour.
I have seen inkjets advertised recently that have one cartridge for each
colour, so you only replace the one that is empty. Sorry, can't remember the
brand name, though. (And it's probably no cheaper anyway, they'll just jack
up the price of the individual cartridges, so you'll pay one way or the
other!)

I have an Epson PS 1270 (6-colour) at home
****
You mean the printer actually uses six colors of ink instead of ye olde
cyan, magenta, and yellow?
This leads me to a related question about color cartridges. What I find
irksome about them is that you gotta throw them away when any one color is
used up, even if there's plenty on the other two colors. Do they make
inkjet printers that use a separate physical cartridge for each color?
