Watch out for winprinters, aka GDI printers -- they have a
different planned obsolesence model. When they want you to buy a
new printer, they discontinue driver support.
I have an old OKIdata 600e LED printer that works great, is
built like a tank, and barely uses any toner at all. But its
native mode is 300 dpi; it depends on the Windows driver to
achieve 600 dpi. But OKI didn't release a driver for Win2K, so
if I want 600 dpi I have to print from my old PC running Win98.
So I also got a used HP 6MP (not a winprinter); I haven't
changed the toner yet on that one.
