Seriously though... Do they have Word fields that they expect to
convert to HTML forms? I've never tried that; that would
probably not be my first choice for building a large secure
commercial website.
It sounds like you have a massive hand-editing job ahead of you.
But maybe you can make some VBA macros to help make it easier,
once you have opened each doc.
Try to identify patterns in the chaos; that might give you a
hook to create a script, or at least a simplified set of editing
steps.
Try looking at each doc in outline mode; maybe that will make
each one a little easier.
Here's a long-shot idea: Convert the documents to XML. There is
a tool called Majix that converts Word documents to XML, and you
can map the Word styles to specific XML tags. Then you can
probably get someone to write a script that reorganizes the XML.
Might be worth investigating...
