TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
You didn't mention your background so it is difficult to know exactly what
you need. Many, many books have been written about writing skills and
technical writing.
If you haven't already done so, you should take courses at your local
university or find a mentor. At the very least the university might tell you
what books they use in their courses.
If you are looking for some bread and butter books, the basics are:
"The Elements of Style" by William Strunk Jr. and E.B. White
"The Elements of Grammar" by Margaret Shertzer
"Manual of Style for Technical Publications" by Microsoft
Interesting to have, but not necessary:
"The Non-Designer's Design Book" by Robin Williams
