Yes, I believe this is an Acrobat thing. I don't think a Reader user will be
prompted to save because you can't save PDF files in Reader.

Do you have your "cross-document links" preference selected? If you clear
that, Acrobat should open a new PDF window for every file, so you probably
wouldn't be prompted to save when you click a link to another file.
You might also save the PDFs with "no changes" protection. If a PDF is
protected against saving, you won't be prompted to save.
