Marie,

The search term you are looking for is SDLC This is the standard abbreviation for software development life cycle and will probably give you more usable search results than the the whole spelled out phrase would. You can look in Google for Web references, but you might want to start on the Google Groups Advanced Search page (http://www.google.com/advanced_group_search?hl=en) and just look in the techwr-l archives (in the Newsgroup field, enter bit.listserve.techwr-l). You can play around with the search terms from that page. That search should turn up threads that discuss your issue in some detail and offer references to good books on it.

HTH,

Dick

Hello,

I'm relatively new to technical writing and end user documentation so, by in
large I'm making it up as I go. I work for a small (just under 100
employees) Internet company that provides online services to car
dealerships. Before I was hired there was no documentation department. We
now have an online and print manual, Quick Start Guides, and are developing
online tutorials. However, there is just no existing documentation and no
processes in place for writing system requirements, programming, and
creating end user documentation. Can any of you suggest good references or
sites that detail how the process works, "in a perfect world".
