Help needed with academic research survey
Job satisfaction, the feelings a person holds towards their job, has long
been considered an indicator of performance and turnover in the workplace,
and as a corollary of personal feelings of well-being.
Many studies of workplace behaviour include investigations of job
satisfaction. Questions on job satisfaction are included in Britain's
largest long-term study of social trends, the British Household Panel Survey
(the BHPS), which has been run since 1991 under the auspices of the Economic
and Social Research Council.
I am planning to conduct a survey on job satisfaction and technical
communicators, starting in March 2003. The results of this survey will be
used as the basis of an academic dissertation which forms part of the
requirements for the MA in Technical Communications degree course at
Sheffield Hallam University.
To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time that a study of job
satisfaction has been directed towards technical communicators, and I invite
you all to take part in this study.
Please note that job satisfaction surveys are usually restricted to people
who are actually in work, and are employees (rather than self-employed or
business owners) at the time of the survey. This survey needs to maintain
this same restriction, so that results can be compared to other existing
surveys. If you are not currently working, or not currently working as an
employee, you will be able to skip over the job satisfaction questions. Even
if you do not answer the job satisfaction questions, the answers you give to
other questions in this survey will provide valuable evidence for building
up a wider picture of technical communicators, their backgrounds, work
environments, and the work they are currently doing.
This is a Web-based survey, and should take less than ten minutes to
complete. Please note that the identity of respondents is not tracked, which
ensures your privacy.
