Your experience was certainly interesting, Bruce, and I'm glad you shared it with us. However, I don't see it as definitive proof of anything except that in this particular case, this specific employer wanted/needed a degree of technical background in any writer they hired. That is why the debate rages on and on and on -- because there is no one right position for all cases.

The more you know, the more you can do, the more you can show an employer, the better your chances of getting work -- anywhere.

Fascinating, though, that although you admitted you didn't have enough of the technical knowledge they were looking for, they called you back anyway. :-)
