Using character styles in Word, anyone have any use for this and does it work?

As a FrameMaker user, I was happy to see character
styles in Word. I created a customization to the
Hyperlink reserved one to create blue, underlined
text.
Unfortunately, for bullets that comprise a
cross-reference, it doesn't work. The bullet becomes
blue but the cross-reference text is neither blue nor
underlined. How odd. Anyone know how to keep the
autonumber bullet black yet underline the text and
make the text of the x-ref blue as per the character
style?
Cheers,
Sean
