15 years here, with a mix of FT/contract jobs (sometimes both at once).
Pretty much a mixed bag of methods for finding the jobs, but I'd say that
networking has definitely paid off.
- 1st job (contract): newspaper ad
- 2nd job (contract): referral by former professor
- 3rd job (contract): networking
- 4th job (full time, 6 yrs): referred by a friend
- 5th job (contract): networking
- 6th job (contract): STC local chapter job posting
- 7th job (contract): referred by a former co-worker
- 8th job (full time, 2 yrs): headhunter found me, having been referred by
multiple former co-workers
- 9th job (contract): STC jobs database, networking (I'd met the contact on
a previous assignment, and contacted him about working remotely, as I wasn't
willing to relocate to the job site - got the contract)
- 10th job (contract): referral by multiple former co-workers
- 11th job (contract): STC jobs database
- 12th job (full time, 1 yr): STC jobs database
- 13th job (contract): STC local chapter job listing
- 14th job (contract): referred by former boss
