I routinely open (not create) Word files that exceed 30 Mb in size. I don't have any
particular problems working with such files in Word, but if I'm importing them into
RoboHelp, I get all sorts of problems unless I break them down into smaller parts.

System resources do have quite a significant effect. I run 1-2 Gb on my systems,
with fixed paging files 2X RAM.
