Maybe he sees that since technical writers must deal with all kinds of
people, what better type of person than to do the coordinating and working
with people? They probably have the best people-skills of the group? You
actually want a developer or NOC admin, who can't work with anyone who
doesn't speak geek to do it?

My assistant in the documentation department here- my boss went to her
and asked her to be the designated party organizer and person who
collects money for baby showers. There are 25 people on this floor, but
he comes to someone in this department. I put a stop to that in a big
hurry. I/we don't mind doing it sometimes, but why not spread it around
- let others handle it sometimes? Interesting he did not go to any of
the programmers or network admins - but comes to our department. I felt
that this was an indication that he sees tech writing as lightweight,
