TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.

It's not the lack of positions...it's the overabundance of schlock technical
writers, and it's our fault that there are too many of those writers because
don't set up barriers to those who say (and this isn't related to any posts
on the last 48 hours) "hmm...I suck at writing code and it's boring, and I'm
having trouble bluffing the compiler. However, I speak English and I own
Word, so I can probably write. Maybe I'll think of being a technical
writer."

Well, I WOULD like one of them to actually know why they are getting into
the field and why it appeals to them. We don't want people who are just
thinking of getting into the field. We want people who know what the field
is and WANT to get into the profession.
