Subject:inter document pdf links on web for mac From:Chris Gooch <chris -dot- gooch -at- lightworkdesign -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Mon, 7 Apr 2003 14:53:56 +0100
Hi all
Is anyone out there an expert in using PDF on the web?
I have a set of PDF files which have links between them.
This all works well on CD or file system, and on the web for
PC users. However Macintosh users have the following
problem;
The web site has an html page which has a link to
a top-level .pdf file which then has links to the other
.pdf files. Clicking on this correctly brings up the file
in acrobat reader (assuming acrobat has been set up
on the mac in question, of course).
The problem is that clicking on the inter-file links in
the pdf file in acrobat causes acrobat to say it can't
find the file in question. This is fine, however for PC
users.
All of the pdf files are in one directory, and are all lower
case, so file seperators, case sensitivity and relative
versus absolute paths don't seem to be the issue.
And as I say, everything works on the Mac via the
CD, and the pdfs and the file structure are identical.
I have to confess that I am far from an expert on
Macintosh. Could it be that Acrobat, when it is fired
up from Internet Explorer, doesn't realise that,
when it searching for a file, should use the
web rather than its local file system? Is there a
way to tell Acrobat where and how to search for
files? Acrobat's web site isn't very forthcoming...
any insights much appreciated.
Chris.
PS. Problem noted with MacOSX, IE 5.2 and Acrobat 5.1.
