TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I noticed Hal works for the U.S. Navy. Being a 20-year veteran of the USAF
myself, I know what procurement procedures can be like, and I suspect that
Hal has all sorts of avenues to advertise job opportunities at no cost to
the government. Given that a number of people who subscribe to this list
may be looking for work, one would think Hal's job posting was a service to
the [this] community at large.
I can understand your position on advertising, especially where the
advertiser might reap [tangible] monetary rewards, but I'm having a bit of
difficulty understanding why jobs can't be advertised on techwr-l free of
charge (especially in these times).
Hal now has to not only turn away from techwr-l as a source of skilled
potential employees for a job his department might have an opening for, but
he can't post until his posting privileges are restored. A bit harsh, don't
ya think?
...or maybe I'm just too used to treating others like human beings, wanting
to be treated like one myself?
