Newbie Question: DBMS & IBM Mainframe Apps

Greetings everyone!
I will try to be brief and concise, I have learned
that much so far. I am trying to identify a specialty
and have been given a push toward the areas of DBMS
and IBM Mainframe Apps. I'm sure many will have their
respective opinions on these particualr areas, but in
this horrific market, the prospect of a job at the end
of this rainbow is enough to make me bite the bullet.
I know this is a vague one, but can anyone help me
identify documenting tasks that would be specific to
DBMS and IBM Mainframe environments?
