Hi, I'm a list newbie (first post!) and I wanted to chime in on this.
Mr. Hanvey is absolutely right. After creating a 200+ page doc with
hundreds of numbered lists, I learned the painful way that Word just
doesn't handle lists well.
I used the field-code method that he advocates for both numbered and
lettered lists, and tied them both to macros that put in the number and
format the paragraph to the right style.
I finally decided to use this method for bulleted lists too, because I
started having mega trouble with that as well in Word. I use a couple of
unicode symbols as my bullets.
Anyway, if you want more info on what I have set up, please send me an
e-mail. I know exactly how frustrating it is to try and standardize lists
in Word.
