Hey Gene,
<Gene wrote:>
A manager like that will be just as laggard in recognizing
employees who go the extra distance as in trying to bring
one who doesn't up to the same level as the rest of staff.
Best thing to do if one is in an organization like that is
to bide one's time until market conditions make a move
viable, because things aren't going to get better. When I
was a hiring manager, none of my "extra effort" employees
ever had any doubt when they saw their evals, bonus checks
or stock option awards that I knew who my top contributors
were.
<I respond:>
Yes I agree that it's a good thing that you do that for those employees.
And it's a good thing that those employees know their work is appreciated.
However, it can be a BAD thing if those employees feel like or are told
they HAVE to do that instead of they WANT to do that, for whatever reason.
I'm not saying that's the case with you, just saying that, as mentioned
before, there are cases where that IS the situation. I've been in
situations where putting in the extra effort got me nowhere. Made me feel
like why do it, then?
