It may be the bulk of the techwr-l list, but tech writing isn't an industry. tech writers work _in_ industries--a wide variety of them. Several people on this list have experience in the medical device industry, scientific equipment industry, computer hardware industry, machinery industry, ...

I think you need to approach companies in the industries that interest you and find out what their needs are rather than starting at our end of the horse and trying to work your way back to the mouth.
