ANNOUNCE: Take a break with Hi-tek--an absurdist view of high tech
Tired of templates?
Mired in meaningless meetings?
Flummoxed by muxes?
Take a giggle break and read the new novel that takes an absurdist view
of high technology. Within the pages of hi-tek: a novel of comic events
you will be introduced to four technical writers, who, in their
assiduous dedication to avoid real work, are shown in various off-beat
and funny situations resplendent with a cast of characters including:
* Malcolm Andromedicus Finkenbinder--director in charge of the DOA
(Department of Acronyms) whose obsession is to turn every
conceivable sentence in the English language into an acronym.
* Wasabi Sashimi--HR director who is spying on American corporate
culture to determine the source of US innovation.
* Endicott Plain--president of Xoom-tek and whose idea of innovation
is to do away with walls, ceilings and floors to create the
Virtual Open Environment (VOE).
* Elektrikal Banana--bizarre being spontaneously engendered out of
heaps of hi-tek debris, a being that inspires the creation of the
Elektrikal Banana hi-tek Safe Sex Device.
Hi-tek leaves few fish un-filleted in the odd little pond that is high
technology.
Dan the technical writer struggled over whether or not to buy the latest
piece of high-tech software. It looked good, it seemed good . . . heck,
it
probably even smelled good. However, he couldn't shake that nagging
feeling that it wasn't all it was cracked up to be.
Sighing, he clicked off the order page and decided to browse through PC
Magazine online, because he'd heard the Editors' Choice Awards were being
announced.
A review caught his eye, and as he read it over, Dan beamed with pride.
"SnagIt has won the PC Magazine Editor's Choice Award . . . as well as a
perfect five-star rating!" Dan read aloud.
Dan thought back to how SnagIt - the leading screen capture software - had
been Dan's technical writing assistant nearly since he'd begun the
profession. Nothing made capturing images and text easier. He hadn't
felt
at all reluctant when he'd bought it - also, he had the 30-day evaluation
period to try it out.
"I never had a doubt about SnagIt," Dan said, "and here my opinion - and
my
purchase - is validated!"
"It's as if I won an award myself," Dan whispered in realization. "When
they win, I win too."
He quickly sent himself a congratulatory e-card. Choosing software was
hard work - he deserved it.
